give yourself a treat, and listen to this.

or even better, go on youtube and watch the actual music video, which is genius. i can’t post that video because the embed code has been disabled, but really, go look it up. there are very few songs i fall in love with upon first listen.
this is one of them.

September 8, 2009 at 3:36 pm (college, mlia, music)

today in lit class, i felt like the man (which is purely just a figure of speech. i don’t actually feel like a man. what does being a man feel like anyways? stupid? I JOKE)
but ok, we were discussing a poem, by hayden carruth, i think, and somehow we got sidetracked and ended up discussing the ability to raise only one eyebrow.

eyebrowDwayne_Johnson
yes, exactly like that. except i don’t follow that up with an obnoxious “DO YOU SMELLLLLLLLLLLL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING?”

and it turns out thatttttt i can do this. and raise my eyebrow i did, just so everyone could see. and fall to their knees in awe.

oh, you can run a 5 minute mile, swallow flaming swords and pull a rabbit out of your sunhat?
well, that’s impressive, but can you raise just one eyebrow?
yeah, i didn’t think so. now, that’s skill.

lovedrunk came out today!

love-drunk-boys-like-girls--large-msg-124604443019
finally!
i really, really am enjoying it. ok, bear in mind though, that i had the privilege of witnessing martin johnson explaining each and every song, and to know the reasoning behind a song, especially when the reasoning is given by the artist himself, is very…intimate. so, in a weird way, i feel almost bonded to this album. does that make sense?
sentimentality aside though, the tracks are actually pretty good. not brilliant, or breathtaking, but good. my favourite so far is ‘someone like you’ and ‘two is better than one’ feat. taylor swift. martin’s voice is so appropriate for ballad-y songs, i feel.
have you heard their cover of ‘let go’?

tis.brilliant.

thanks to mlia, i have developed a new hobby – talking to cleverbot.
http://www.cleverbot.com/
cleverbot promises many a cheap thrills, especially if you are a fan of meaningless, unrelated conversations.

oh, and because i like to pretend that i don’t have an insane amount of studying to do, i googled ‘strange holidays’ to see what happens on my birthday, and it turns out that my birthday is both ‘fun at work’ day (which i will have to wait a while to actually celebrate) and ‘inane answering message day’, which is totally up my alley.
i am going to have fun with this – i don’t know how yet – but i will.
also, my birthday week is ‘national take back your time week’. huh.
and my birthday month, is among many things, ‘national be on purpose month’, ‘national hot tea month’, ‘national soup month’ and ‘international change your stars month’.
question – how does one go about changing one’s stars?

OKAY. FIFTEEN MINUTE BREAK (more like an hour) IS OVER. THE PURSUIT OF MATHEMATICAL GLORY MUST CONTINUE.

i don’t think i’ll be getting any sleep tonight. reason? i just stumbled onto the greatest website in a while.  click click click for endless giggles!

http://mylifeisaverage.com

it’s like fmylife, but way better. i promise you that you will not regret it. my favourite one so far:
Today, my teacher asked my class to raise their hand if they were lazy. I was the only one who didn’t raise their hand. When asked why, I said I was too lazy. He laughed and gave me extra credit. I have a newly found respect for him. MLIA

sooooo, yes. i am sitting here, going through the archives of this awesome site, while having a eminem-a-thon. yes, i do like eminem. a whole lot, actually. i mean, his prevalent vulgarity aside, the man’s rapping is genius. and funny. at least, i find it funny. i think my favourite rap by him is either ‘lose yourself’ or…no, it’s ‘lose yourself’ for sure.

i have spent my entire (and you think when i say entire, i’m exaggerating, but no, really. i mean entire) day reading king dork. it’s such a good book! good books make me so happy. speaking of good books, there will be a bookfest from tomorrow onwards at the kl convention centre. be excited. i know i am.

today on facebook, someone left a completely inane comment on a wall post of mine. it made no sense, and it still doesn’t, but i refuse to reply because my replying might lead to furthur exchanges with said person. and i don’t want that. yeah, yeah, i’m mean. whatever.

keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrrow!

sorry, completely pointless post. have a picture as an apology.

Picture 017
isn’t he adorable?

sooooo, how amazing was mtv world stage?

P1000404

P1000405fooding at international pancake house, where neither of us ate pancakes. my kiasuness ensured that we had plenty of time to spare.

P1000408in line. we were extremo sneaky with the bag am quite proud we managed to pull it off.

P1000426estranged.
they were not bad, neither were they awesome. they didn’t really do anything for the crowd, who by this time, was completely restless with all the waiting.

P1000465boys like girls. was. awesome. endofstory.

P1000478during ‘thunder’, i stopped snapping pictures, and along with everyone else, raised my arms and sang along. it was the most amazing feeling. and i have always loved that song. always. it brings back so many memories.

P1000483‘throw it away
 forget yesterday
 we’ll make the great escape
we won’t hear a word they say
 they don’t know us anyway

i’m not putting up any pictures of raygun, because all the ones i have wouldn’t do them justice =(
they were brilliant, though. i totally did not see it coming. if you’ve seen their music video for ‘just because you can’, you’d think they were vaguely annoying musicians.
they are not.
they are entertaining, and talented. one of the few musicians that are better live. without a doubt, they were the best performance of the night.

P1000527hoobastank was not bad. actually, i’m even going to to go so far as to say that they were really, really good. doug was so awesomely cool; his face, his expressions. and then of course, they had the whole crowd singing the ghostbusters song, which i approve of, because acts of randomness like this make me happy.
when they launched into ‘the reason’, i remembered all the reasons i loved them. again, the songs has so many memories tied to it.

P1000581the rejects were brilliant. i don’t know how to better describe it.

P1000583tyson ritter has so much energy, it blows my mind. he kinda reminds me of a hyperactive monkey on crack, but you know, a cute one.
they sang ‘it ends tonight’ and i was completely contented. i LOVE that song. LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE. i’m going to stop saying love.

P1000603the crowd thinned considerably for kasabian, probably because they’re not very popular in malaysia (some people would beg to differ, but it’s true) those who stayed though, were pretty hardcore moshers.
i’m not overly familiar with them, but i do know and love ‘shoot the runner’, which they performed.

P1000616the crowd of purpotedly 15000.

quite frankly, i don’t know how we lasted. it’s one of those things you go through, and then you think back, and you wonder ‘holy hell. how?’ (alliteration!)

we were so dead by the end of it all, it wasn’t funny. 9 hours of standing, with roughly 5 hours of jumping around, screaming and dancing thrown in.

thank god for youth.

yesterday was amazing!
actually, this whole week has been pretty damn amazing. but yesterday. yesterday was mind blowing.

so i won a junk magazine competition which allowed me in to interview boys like girls in person.
i got to pyramid tower around 1.30 ish, and met with the two other winners. we were greeted by:
P1000371
and

P1000376
they were half naked a lot because there was a photo shoot coming up, and they were all trying to figure out what to wear. not that we were complaining of course.

so, yeah, the photoshoot, the one we didn’t know about, but ended up helping with. the people from junk asked, ‘do you guys mind helping out? just throw confetti and balloons at the boys.’ and with grins a mile long, we politely said ok, and then squealed when they walked away.
obviously, we couldn’t take our own pictures during the photoshoot, but junk’s released a couple of pictures via twitter already.

22857276
the boys were very cool during the photoshoot. they really got into the whole confetti/balloons/glitter/cake thing.

afters, we had our exclusive interview with them, and it was hilarious. there’s an exclusive picture with them from the interview, but i’m waiting on junk to send it to me.

afters, rushed to the curve so that we could do the whole pre-order thing at sony style.

P1000377
P1000379we went prepared.

we waited in line forever. no, really. forever. partly because we wanted the cd. partly because we wanted the free mtv stage passes that came along with it. yes, i’m aware i already have tickets. i also have a plan =)
met cool people while in line. met some scary 15 year  olds. got out limited edition poster.
at 7.30, the boys appeared.
P1000386
P1000387
hello paul, alyssa’s new love.

P1000390
seeing them for the third day in a row now.

P1000392
P1000394dinner was yummy, as usual.

last friday we had won tickets to watch district 9 today. we weren’t all that jazzed to be honest, because we aren’t huge fans of alien movies, but free is free, so we went.
it was awful, horrible, so bad that we walked out after 45 minutes, which is a first. for me anyways.
it wasn’t just uninteresting, it was also disgusting. i expected so much better from peter jackson.

P1000399
to kill time, we sat on the steps in a light drizzle and talked about life.

it was so much better than sitting through the movie.

CIMG0148
it’s one of those miss oregon mornings.

EDIT:

went to coco banana for the exclusive listening to boys like girls latest album, the one that’s not out yet. we were told that they weren’t going to be there. IT WAS A LIE! THEY WERE THERE. ohmygodohmygodohmygod.
martin johnson induces hyperventilation.
he said, ‘whats up?’ to me. my face – i wish everyone could have seen it.
they explained the entire album to us, song by song, and that made it really cool, because we got an insight behind all those lyrics.

I AM INTERVIEWING THEM TOMORROW!

not going to be able to sleep tonight =)

August 10, 2009 at 3:03 pm (afs, books, holidays, movies, music, volunteer)

my poor neglected blog. and it’s not even due to writer’s block, which you know, is a credible excuse of sorts. i just haven’t had time. so, i’m going to do that annoying thing i always do where one post will cover like 4 days. yes, it’s going to be a long one. or maybe a short one. we’ll see how it goes as i type.

last friday was the perfect way to end college. we watched ‘the pianist’ during lit, and somehow managed to carry on watching it throughout law as well. it’s a brilliant movie, excellant dialogue, but very, very painful to watch. it’s set during world war 1, and it’s very graphic and unreserved. adrien brody was amazing. oscar totally deserved  if you ask me.
i think the maintenance man hates us now, though. he was lurking outside, waiting to take the tv away, jangling his keys l0udly. and we ignored him. shamelessly. and lied to him about how much longer the movie was. ok, that was ‘sna, not the rest of us. but still.

watch. but not if you want to be in a happy happy joy joy kind of mood.
‘sometimes i don’t know which side of the wall i’m on.’

saturday and sunday were selection camp days. it’s so weird, being on the side. at the same time, the whole thing was just so nostalgic. we had been there before – for the exact same reason. but that was nearly two years ago, and that’s what really blows my mind. two years?! has it really been two years? and all of a sudden, i miss everyone. sherrilyn, and maryanne, and joe and faiz, and the way we all were, and how close we used to be. everyone’s everywhere now. and it’s all just memories. thats what we’re reduced to. fragmented memories.
anyways.
camp was fun. some of these kids are so talented, and beyond smart. i am amazed. i genuinely enjoyed just hanging out with these people.
and of course, my fellow volunteers were loads of laughs. midnight anw vist, and sneaky chit chat – i loved it all. was exhausted at the end of it, running on maybe 3 hours of sleep, but it was well worth it.
i am  looking forward to pre-departure camp!

monday was good. monday was beyond awesome. monday did not start with an 8 a.m. math class.
instead, i headed off to 1 utama with pia to catch ‘the proposal’. ice cream for lunch is the way to go (says the tastebuds, not the wasteline). orange sherbet is so awesome. why have i not been exposed to this awesomeness before?
somehow, i’m nnot quite sure how, but i ended up buying the the last copy of ‘king dork’ from mph, and this pretty pretty vintage looking aquamarine ring from bonita. it was on sale! and i think it might just be a teensy bit magical.
‘the proposal’ is funny. a bit of a stretch on how they so quicky fell for each other ( 3 days in alaska? alaska must be an enzyme for relationships, you know, it speeds up the reactions?. see that? i made a bio funny)  but ryan reynolds is yummy. and sandra bullock is awesome. and the dialogue is witty.
go watch it. and laugh at reynolds’ facial expressions.
and sigh over kevin the dog.

and then i came home, to find the most EXCITING message in my facebook inbox!

Hi Cheryl,
Congratulations, we deemed your Boys Like Girls question worthy enough to be asked in person.

1) The Boys Like Girls album listening party is tomorrow at Coco Banana. Time is tentatively around 12pm/1pm. Attendance is optional.
2) The meet & greet is on Wednesday.

Please reply with your contact info and whether you will be free to attend the listening party and the meet & greet as soon as you can.

=)

i should explain. sometime last week, junk was having this contest asking readers to tell them the ultimate question they would pose to boys like girls. and my winning question was ‘your last day on earth; how would you spend it?’
and so, those 10 words won me a meet & greet with boys like girls. I AM SO PSYCHED, BECAUSE I LOVE MARTIN JOHNSON. not in the he’s so hot i want his body way, but more in a platonic way. his blog is amusing. and he wants a pot bellied pig. and we all know how i want a pot bellied pig.
we’re fated bffs, methinks.

it’s been such an amazing couple of days.

desperation and dedication (not to mention sneaking off to the comp lab in between classes) has paid off.

TWO TICKETS TO MTV WORLD STAGE ‘LIVE’ IN MALAYSIA!!

eeeeeeee, so excited.

the line up features:

the all american rejects

boys like girls ( i don’t care what charlie says, martin johnson – i forgive you the spitting. as long as you promise never to do it again. i can’t take repeat offenders. and i read about how you want a pot-bellied pig too. we should discuss these pet pig dreams in detail someday.)

estranged.
repping malaysia, yo. ok, i will ditch my dreams of being ghetto, because i fail.

hoobastank
which, you know, i think is a really cool name. or not. i can’t actually decide. damn you fickleness.

KASABIAN
these guys are legendary! i never thought i’d see them in consert! IN FACT, I AM GOING TO USE CAPS RIGHT NOW JUST TO SHOW HOW EXCITED I AM. and to annoy people. because people get annoyed by constant switching between upper and lower cases. i am one of these people. small tip? DOn’T TyPE liKe ThIs. and that is my public awareness message of the month.

pixie lott
ok, i’ll be honest here. i hadn’t heard of her till news of mtv world stage started flitting about. but i’m sure she’s great. she’s a good addition to the lineup. also, did i mention that kasabian will be there?

raygun

ditto what i said about pixie lott. i looked them up on youtube though (after watching charlie the unicorn for the 2,000,000th time) and they’re pretty alright.

I AM SO EXCITED!
